Attendance
We encourage and promote daily attendance unless a child is ill or there is a good reason for absence. The Department for Education expect a minimum of 97% attendance. School sends regular printouts informing parents of their children’s percentage attendance. Children are rewarded for good attendance.
We monitor all attendance, particularly if your child falls below 95%.
Illness
If your child is ill please inform school of the reason by telephone (listen to the message and press 1 to report an absence), note or in person between 8:30am and 9:15am on the first day of absence. If we have not heard from you by 10:00am we will text to remind you to contact us. If you don’t inform school, your child's absence will go down as unauthorised and a home visit may be undertaken. Unauthorised absences will be followed up by our Attendance Team and parents may be requested to appear before an attendance panel. The Government requires schools to publish attendance.
Extended Leave
Unless there are exceptional circumstances school will not authorise extended leave, however you must inform school if you are intending on taking your child out of school. Please contact the main office for a form and to make an appointment with Mrs Shaw.
If authorisation is not given for the leave, parents will receive a £60 penalty fine per child per parent.
As a reminder, we will consider legal action through the magistrates court as opposed to penalty notices in the following situations:
- A continuous period of unauthorised leave of 20 school days (40 sessions) or more
- Two or more periods of unauthorised leave totalling 10 school days (20 sessions) or more within a 12 month period.
NB – A period of leave which spans across two half-terms will be treated as one period of leave.

Hospital Appointment
If your child has a hospital appointment we need to see evidence of that appointment. Please bring the appointment card to the main office. School will not be able to authorise the absence if we are not informed of the reason.
routine appointments
Please make dental and medical appointments outside schools hours.
If your child has an emergency appointment to see the doctor or dentist during school we would like to see either a text or an appointment card before the child goes or when you bring the child back. If you are not sent a text or a card could you please ask the doctor’s/dentist’s receptionist to sign a note to say that your child has had an appointment.
Religious Observance
Governors will authorise one day’s absence for pupils for major religious festivals if the festival falls on a school day. School will also take advice from the Interfaith Centre as regards authorised days for religious observance.
Punctuality – Before School
The registers are marked at the beginning of each morning and afternoon session, and all children must arrive at school on time.
Powell Building: Unless your child is at Breakfast Club, children will enter the school via the main playground from 8:40am. Children arriving after 8:50am are to enter the school via the main office.
Kennion Building: Unless your child is at Breakfast Club, children who attend Reception should enter the school via the bottom gate from 8:30am. Children in Year 1 should enter the school via the top gate from 8:30am. Any children arriving late after 8:40am will need to enter school via the main office.
Please do not send your child earlier than these times as we cannot take responsibility before then.
Punctuality – After School
Young children often feel worried if a parent or other adult is not on time to collect them. Please telephone school if you are unable to collect your child at the end of the school day.
Powell Building: School finishes at 3:30pm and children must be picked up from their designated door. At 3:40pm any children who have not been collected will be taken to the Community Room. School does not provide after school care and therefore any parents who continuously pick their children up late will be charged £1 a minute.
Kennion Building: School finishes at 3:20pm and children must be picked up from their designated door. At 3:30pm any children who have not been collected will be taken to the main office.
